Fulton CSD Community Schools Kickoff Carnival Slated August 19

The Fulton City School District , in partnership with its Community Schools Initiative Grant Partners, will host a Community School Kickoff Carnival on August 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fulton Junior High School. Governor Andrew Cuomo launched the Community Schools initiative as a way to transform schools in distressed communities into hubs for a wide range of support services for children and their families.

2014 Walk for Life announced

The Pregnancy Care Center of Oswego County announces its annual Walk for Life. On September 14, participants from all across Oswego County will join together in support of life. The 2.5-mile walk will begin at Oswego High School’s parking lot, go right by the Pregnancy Care Center at 140 W. Utica St. and continue across the Utica Street bridge to the Peace Garden for a moment of silence for the babies lost to abortion this past year.

Phoenix teachers ready to use new technology in classrooms

Thirteen teachers in the Phoenix Central School District will have a new learning tool at their disposal when classes resume in September.

To align with the district’s vision and maintain its forward-thinking strategies, educators from each building recently participated in a five-day Flipped Learning Boot Camp, which incorporated Android tablets as supplemental learning devices.

Suicide Prevention ‘Stride to Save Lives’ 5K Run/Walk Planned

Runners and walkers, including suicide survivors and mental health advocates, will gather to raise awareness for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention as they participate in the Suicide Prevention “Stride to Save Lives.” Proceeds raised will benefit SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. Oswego County will be hosting the September 20 event at the SUNY Oswego campus (Campus Center Food Court).

Motorcycle Club Pays a Special Visit to Veteran at St. Luke

A visit from the Sons of Sam Motorcycle Club made for a wonderful and fun-filled summer night for some residents at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. Members of the club’s Oswego chapter stopped at the healthcare residence as part of their weekly ride and spent some time socializing and talking about their club, their motorcycles and true to the club’s mission, shared some comradery with a local veteran.

Backpack Drive to support United Way’s Stuff-a-Bus

For the second consecutive summer, Human Concerns, Oswego’s emergency food pantry along with AmeriCorps member, Evan Oustrich, is conducting a backpack drive to aid the United Way’s Stuff-a-Bus campaign. There is a great need throughout Oswego County for backpacks so that students can carry their belongings to school.
