Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen recently announced that the city of Oswego Water Treatment Plant was starting construction on upgrades to the treatment facility. The work reduces the production capacity of the plant by 25% and will be continuing until the end of June. It is requested that all users of city of Oswego water curtail the use of water as much as possible during this construction period.
Phoenix Central School District seniors Ian Evans and Meghan Lentz have been named the top two of the John C. Birdlebough High School Class of 2014. Earning an overall grade point average of 101.58, Evans will graduate as the JCB class valedictorian. Finishing her four years at JCB with an overall grade point average of 100.82, Lentz will graduate as the JCB class salutatorian.
One person was arrested recently by the Oswego County Drug Task Force after a joint investigation conducted by members of the task Ffrce and the City of Fulton Police Department. A search warrant was conducted on May 20 and reportedly resulted in the recovery of 28 bags of heroin in glassine envelopes and/or plastic packaging and a morphine tablet.
The students presented “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type” by Doreen Cronin. The book tells the story of Farmer Brown’s cows, who find an old typewriter in the barn and proceed to write letters to the farmer, listing demands.
Students at Granby Elementary School, selected at best representing that character trait, were treated to a special breakfast with Principal Heather Perry. Students arrived one-by one to the library with their invitations in hand, to enjoy a buffet of breakfast treats including fruit cocktail, cereal, breakfast pizza and an assortment of juices.
A search warrant was conducted on May 29 and resulted in the recovery of 84 bags of heroin, Fentanyl Patches, marihuana, unlawfully possessed prescription pills and crack cocaine along with digital scales and packaging material, according to police.
Granby Elementary School students put away their history books for a firsthand account of life during World War II. Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan spoke to fifth and sixth grade students at the school about life as a Jewish person in Nazi Germany.
Hannibal High School’s Senior Band Concert will be held June 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. The senior send-off concert is a bid farewell to graduating seniors and foreign exchange students.
The talent show featured 15 student acts, including singing solos, drum covers, musical skits, a comedy routine, an a cappella quartet and a live band. Members of the audience voted on their favorite act, and while numbers were tallied, participated in a few rounds of Phoenix Family Fued.
Hannibal’s Fairley Elementary School was the place to be in late May. The first grade teaching team of Tammy Griffin, MaryJo Griffiths, Telia Tamayo, Lynn Bullard, Jennifer Bartlett and Rhonda Koskowski hosted a learning showcase that starred all of the hard-working first grade students at the school.
