When Oswego native Dr. Chris Colloca first conceived the idea of growing grapes on the shores of Lake Ontario, he didn’t envision that his inaugural vintage would be award worthy. Fair Haven’s newest and only vineyard was awarded Silver medals for all three of its wines entered at the 14th Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.
Motorists are reminded that the month of April is National Distracted Driver Awareness month. Members of the Oswego Police Department will be out educating and warning motorist of the danger of distracted driving. April 10-15, law enforcement personnel will be using a combination of traditional and innovative strategies to crack down on motorists who text while driving.
North Volney Methodist Church is having a used book sale on May 10 at the church on the corner of routes 4 and 6 in the town of Volney. We are accepting used books, magazines, DVDs, jig saw puzzles and other like items to be sold at the sale. The sale will be from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Fulton Junior High School’s Music Department recently held a spring concert as part of Music In Our Schools Month. Throughout the evening, students read short narratives, expressing what music meant to them. “Without music, my life would be dull,” said one student.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety and Finance and Personnel committees have approved a budget modification request from Oswego County Sheriff Reuel A. Todd to cover the cost of housing inmates out-of-county. In the first two months of the year, this expense amounted to $130,000 which exhausted the adopted 2014 budget amount of $100,000.

More than 100 participants are signed up for the second annual Plunge for Special Olympics New York and will take an icy dip into Ontario Lake on Saturday in support of local area Special Olympics athletes. Sergeant Jim Cunningham, officers Lysa Dolin, Bryan Thompson and Kevin Engle of the Oswego Police Department will lead the plunge carrying the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics “Flame of Hope.”
Nine Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior/Senior High School students earned recognition for their outstanding excellence and commitment to academics when they were welcomed into the district’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.
