The 2014-2015 State Budget address delivered by Governor Cuomo puts New York State in a great position to build upon the work we have done in recent years to control spending, cut taxes and invest in initiatives that create new jobs and revitalize our economy. Working together, we have put a stop to the decades of late and unbalanced budgets by passing three consecutive early budgets.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, offers a biweekly osteoporosis exercise regimen at more than 20 sites throughout Oswego County. The RSVP-sponsored classes are self-paced and ensure the program itself does not increase stress or cause pain.
Assemblyman Will Barclay released the following statement today (Jan. 22) following the Governor’s 2014-15 Executive Budget proposal. I am pleased to hear about the tax cuts for Upstate manufacturers. Cutting corporate taxes will give businesses more reason to stay as well as attract others. It was disappointing to hear so little about Central New York in the speech. I hope the budget reveals other details for our region.
Hannibal school personnel, community stakeholders, students and parents continued to lay the groundwork for the district’s future during a meeting recently among the Strategic Plan Committee’s three task forces. Divided into groups targeting student engagement, family/community engagement and academic achievement, the task forces delved into lengthy discussions to help develop a five-year blueprint for Hannibal schools.
Recently, students at Brewerton Elementary School in the Central Square Central School District, joined together with Craig McGrogan and the Reed HQ Aquarium in Australia for an undersea adventure. The videoconference was part of a distance learning initiative between Oswego County BOCES and Central Square CSD.
The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program in the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District is accepting applications for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. APW UPK is a half-day program providing a variety of exciting educational experiences to help students develop academically, socially, and emotionally as well as achieve their highest potential.

With the new year also comes a new principal for Volney Elementary School. Lisa Garofalo has replaced Interim Principal Michael Egan, and brings with her ten years of administration experience. Her most recent job was with the Syracuse City School District, where she was a vice principal at the West Side Academy at Blodgett
Students at Granby Elementary School have made friends with a BFF – a Bucket Filling Fairy. A BFF and a color cast of characters made a stop at the school last week to perform the character-building play ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today.’ The play is based on Carol McCloud’s award-winning book Have You Filled a Bucket Today, which introduces young readers to the concepts of bucket-filling and bucket-dipping.
