I want to take a moment, first and foremost, to congratulate Councilor-Elect Jim Myers on his victory. I have had the opportunity to meet Jim in person, and after speaking to him I feel that he will represent you well on the Fulton Common Council.
The sounds of lively conversation, music and some good food and drink are many of the things normally associated with the pubs or taverns located throughout Oswego. But for one afternoon recently that atmosphere was found at St. Luke Health Services as residents enjoyed a special “Happy Hour” made possible through the generosity of Eagle Beverage, Inc.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, losing in an ECAC West contest to SUNY Potsdam 3-2. Oswego outshot Potsdam 43-16 in the game
The nationally-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team used a three-goal second period to gain control of the contest and defeat Cortland 4-1 in a SUNYAC matchup on Saturday night. With the victory, the No. 8/12 Lakers move to 2-1 in both overall and conference standings.
Lura Sharp Elementary School held a very special Veterans’ Day ceremony to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces for their service and mark the holiday. The students invited members of their family or neighbors who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces to the patriotic event coordinated by Kelly Shumway, a teacher at the school.
Marta Jean Nolen, 31, of Hannibal, and Matthew Alan Merrill, 28, of Fulton, were arrested this week following a joint investigation by the Oswego County Drug Task Force, the Fulton City Police Department, and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. A search warrant was conducted on March 20, 2013, and resulted in the recovery of a large amount of heroin.
Fourth-grade students at Lanigan Elementary received a unique history lesson Thursday morning as performer and educator Dave Ruch used music to engage his audience and teach them about Iroquois culture. During the presentation, students displayed their knowledge on the topic while Ruch peppered them with questions about every aspect of Iroquois life.
Award winning performances and evaluations have become a tradition for the staff of the Oswego High School Buccaneer Bulletin. Once again, the Buccaneer Bulletin received a gold medal for being the best all around school newspaper in New York State. Each fall, the students and advisors joined with other scholastic journalists and photographers for the annual Empire State School Press Association gathering at Syracuse University.
With the record setting 2013 season at Oswego Kartway now in the rear view mirror, attention turns to the annual championship awards banquet to be held on November 16 at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego. The banquet, set to begin at 6 p.m., will once again honor the season long track champions in all 11 Kartway divisions as well as the semi-pro division champions as a part of the inaugural Fall Frenzy series.
