Lynyrd Skynyrd’s former drummer Artimus Pyle brings the “Ultimate Tribute to Ronnie Van Zant’s Lynyrd Skynyrd” to Monirae’s on November 1. It is more than just a “tribute” to Lynyrd Skynyrd, it’s a tribute to the man that defined it. Artimus Pyle has said “If it wasn’t for Ronnie, no one would know my name.”
The Team Levine Ride/Walk/Run Event takes place at Breitbeck Park Saturday and begins at 10 a.m. to benefit the Levine family of Oswego. Their son, Cooper, was recently diagnosed with ALL – Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 18. The cost to participate is a donation to the Levine family.
Jimmie James BBQ will hold its grand opening celebration on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., announced owners Jim and Robin Guyle. The celebration will include a car show, prize drawings, free giveaways and free samples. Jimmie James BBQ is a family-run restaurant that provides friendly service and good food.
An eco-friendly initiative that recycles used markers to make fuel is gaining local support as the Blue Team at the Stepping Stones Day Program recently hopped on board for the cause. Students in the program, which is collaboration between Oswego County BOCES and Hillside Children’s Center, teamed with Crayola and other schools across North America to participate in the green initiative.
Hundreds of people visited St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence during an Open House this past weekend. Those attending toured the new residence and learned about the unique services and amenities to be offered to the community.
Oswego DPW will be performing preventative maintenance flushing of the water distribution system on the eastside of the city starting October 28. The affected area will be south of East Utica Street to the southern city limits and from State Route 481 to the eastern city limits, starting at East Utica Street and State Route 481.
Second graders at Fairley Elementary School ventured into Cayuga County on Oct. 17 to visit the Sterling Nature Center. The nature center has over ten miles of hiking trails and two miles of lake shore.
Student representatives from eight area school districts used their knowledge in a variety of subjects as they set sail on the first Oswego County Academic Youth League competition of the school year Thursday at the Fulton War Memorial.
Just one more regular season show remains before the Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers compete in the season finale at the Syracuse University Carrier Dome. This Saturday at 6:30 p.m. the Central Square Red Hawks will host the New York State Field Band Conference competition at their stadium behind the high school.
Sixth-grade students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School learned the value of teamwork and trust during a field trip to Camp Hollis on Oct. 11. Divided into three groups, the students participated in a blind nature walk, cooperative games and a challenge course, which was a favorite among many of the students.
