From mid-August through Labor Day, local police will be out in force as part of the annual nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk driving. The crackdown, which will include high-visibility enforcement throughout Oswego County, will run from August 16 through September 2.

On August 14, 2013 at about 9:15 p.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were sent to investigate a reported domestic incident at 55 Siembor Drive in the Town of Oswego. When deputies arrived, they found the body of a 43-year-old woman in one of the bedrooms of the residence.
The city of Oswego Department of Public Works Water Maintenance personnel will be performing preventative maintenance flushing of the water distribution system on the eastside of the city starting on August 19. At about 8:55 Sunday night, a 1998 Audi was traveling southwest on Bonstead Road near the Route 481 overpass in the town of Clay when it crashed, killing the passenger. The suspected driver, who fled the scene, turned himself in this evening.
Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus and West Nile virus (WNV) were found in mosquito pools collected in Oswego County Aug. 7, the Oswego County Health Department announced this afternoon (Aug. 13). The tests were performed in the State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center Laboratories near Albany.

Steven Sears, 40, of Phoenix, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating the driver of the vehicle. According to witnesses, the driver fled because he was drunk and could not have another DWI.
The LT-5 tugboat, docked at the H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego, is a National Historic Landmark because of its brave acts during World War II.
