OHS Softball Team Preps for Fundraising Rummage Sale

Oswego High School softball players Emily Kolenda (left) and Carrie Kelly (right) prepare for the team’s fall rummage sale that will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Oswego High School cafeteria, rain or shine. Plenty of parking is available in the Utica Street parking lot, adjacent to the cafeteria on the south side of OHS. Proceeds from the sale will help finance the girls softball team’s biannual spring trip to Florida in April 2012.  Anyone wishing to donate items for the sale can contact Terri King (343-5601).Proceeds from the sale will help finance the girls softball team’s biannual spring trip to Florida in April 2012.

Youngsters Learn About Bubbles at Oswego Head Start

A child at Oswego Head Start blows a bubble using a lid to a paint cup.  Children gathered items from the classroom and then tested whether they did or didn't work well to make bubbles.  Oswego Head Start is operated by Oswego County Opportunities and is a preschool program for children 3 and 4 years of age and their families.  For more information call 342-0629. Working Together as a Team at Discovery Day Care

Xavier Balcom (Left) and Trenton Hoyt (right) are Toddlers at Discovery Day Care in Phoenix.  The two are working together to build a table with the waffle blocks.  Children participate in cooperative activities to build essential social skills.  Discovery Day Care is a program of Oswego County Opportunities Education Services. VISTA Volunteer Savonne Crews Helps Cayuga Campus Build Bridges to Low-income Community

Savonne Crews, a 2011 graduate of Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., accepted a one-year position as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer at Cayuga Community College, where she will develop and deepen campus-community partnerships that will benefit students at the College and in the broader community.

It takes a special kind of college graduate to seek out a job that intentionally pays at the poverty level, but Savonne Crews of Rochester, N.Y., is ready for the challenge.
