It was championship night for the Oswego and Baldwinsville boys’ varsity volleyball teams.
Before a large enthusiastic crowd at the Cicero-North Syracuse gymnasium the top two Class AA teams went head to head for the Section III crown.
Oswego had captured the regular season title and split the season series with the Bees for the only loss in 16 games.
It was time for the all important rubber match and Oswego got off to a tremendous start.
However, by the end of the night the Baldwinsville Bees won three straight games after losing the opener to capture the Section III Class AA crown.
Oswego dominated the first game of the night with solid serves and solid net play.
The Bucs won 25-20, but it was only in the waning moments that the Bees were able to make the score respectable as Oswego was dominant.
However, in a best of five set the second game is critical.
It was a heated battle in the early going with the score deadlocked at 13-13. However, the Bees gained momentum and won 25-18.
Baldwinsville had the Bucs’ number in game three as the Bees were dominant with strong defensive play and consistent scoring in the 25-10 verdict.
Oswego needed to win games four and five, but game five never came as Baldwinsville built up enough of a lead to never allow the Bucs to get within striking distance for the 25-19 win.
