FULTON – A combined travel band from G. Ray Bodley High School recently earned an Excellent Rating for its stellar Music Festival Orlando performance earlier this month.
GRB music teacher Terry Caviness said since not all the high school’s wind ensemble or concert band could attend the festival, the travel band was created to showcase the musical talents of GRB students during the Universal Studios-affiliated event.
With just a few rehearsals before the trip, Caviness said he was thoroughly impressed with the time, talent and dedication each band member put forth. All other bands at the festival were traditional bands from the various participating schools, he said.
“We received an excellent rating, which is the second highest rating that you can receive,” he said. “For a conglomeration band with limited rehearsal time, I feel as though the band represented itself well. It was a great experience for our kids.”
Additional highlights, Caviness said, include: GRB band students listening to other high school ensembles from throughout the country, performing well and experiencing the fun of Universal Studios and Orlando.
For many students, he said, it was their first time out of New York State and it was an experience the entire group will never forget.
