The featured presenter will be Brittany Patterson of Schuylerville,  a SUNY Oswego alum and re-enactor who specializes in the French and Indian War. Her topic will focus on  “Women and Children’s Dress during the War of 1812.”

Her talk will be given two times – at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

“Under the notion of fashion, I will be discussing, where and why 1812 era fashion was so different, as well as various aspects of the garments and such.” stated Patterson.

She will also bring examples of the period dress for the audience to view.

“We are thrilled to have Brittany return to Oswego to give these presentations during our Canal Celebration. In addition to working at Fort Ontario she also worked here at the Marine Museum. Brittany and her fiancé have been a re-enactment couple for several years and have studied the dress and life styles of the period.” noted Mercedes Niess, executive director of the museum.

Other activities will take place throughout the afternoon and museum guides will be available at each site to discuss the canal system and Oswego’s rich maritime history.
