OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego boys’ varsity golf team opened its 2009 season on Thursday with a win against Utica Proctor at Oswego Country Club by a final score of 214-245.
Junior Colin Joyce and seventh grader Alec Kunzwiler shared medalist honors in the match, both carding respectable rounds of 41 on the difficult front side at OCC.
Alex Bush shot a steady round of 42 followed by teammates Corey Schuffenecker (44) and John Chatterton (46).
Coach Dan Rose said, “This year’s team is made up of 12 players and has a nice mix of youth and experience. Leading the team will be senior captain Corey Schuffenecker. Last season, Corey had a team low overall stroke average of 39 in 15 matches. Corey will look to better that average in this, his final season. Also returning from last year’s team are seniors Scott Quenville, Alex Bush, John Chatterton, and John Gormanâ€â€juniors Colin Joyce, Matt Lloyd and Austin Tracz and sophomore Sam Lalonde.”
Freshman Dylan Morgia, eighth grader Brandon Tracz and seventh grader Alec Kunzwiler round out the 2009 Buc golf team.
These players hope to compete with the top contenders in a league stacked with talent.
“The team is off to a good start with win yesterday,†the coach noted.
Their next contest will be Monday, when they travel south to compete in the Drumlin Invitational.
