Bus Drivers and Crossing Guards Appreciation Day Held At Leighton School

OSWEGO, NY – On September 26, the Staff and Home and School Association of Leighton Elementary honored the people who keep their students and children safe each day arriving and departing from school.

Bus drivers and crossing guards were invited for coffee and doughnuts, followed by meetings with children to discuss safety.

A matrix, which outlines Leighton’s school expectations of being respectful, responsible, problem solvers and in self control, was used to initiate conversations.

Drivers and guards were presented with cards and letters from the children and a treat bag from Home and School.

Following the meetings school Principal Larry Schmiegal and Transportation Director John Pierce had an opportunity to meet with these key people and discuss how things were going and any suggestions for improvement.

This is the 10th year FLS has hosted this meaningful event and will continue to do this each new school year.
