Oswego County is Recruiting Foster Parents

The Foster-Adoptive Recruitment Team at Oswego County Department of Social Services is searching for caring, compassionate people to provide shelter for dozens of children in foster care. “At any given time, there are up to 60 children in foster care and less than half of the teens in care have the option of residing in a local foster home,” said Stacy Alvord, commissioner of Oswego County DSS.

Shineman Foundation Supports OCO Cancer Services Program

Karen Goetz, executive director of the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, presented Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program Coordinator Carolyn Handville and Cancer Services Program Assistant Christina Wallace with a donation of $1,550. The OCO Cancer Services program offers a wide range of cancer screenings free of charge to both men and women.

Oswego Health is expanding its February wear red initiative, which brings awareness to the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, to include this year congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the United States. As is the tradition at Oswego Health, staff members wore the color red to work today, February 3.
