WIC nutritionist Ashley Ward of Oswego County Opportunities announced that New York State has made changes to the WIC program. Administered locally through OCO, WIC provides women, infants and children with supplemental food and nutrition education.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau will sponsor free games and activities in Oswego City parks July 5 through Aug. 19. AmeriCorps members Nik Whiteside and Heather Eastman will provide organized activities, with focus and attention to physical activity and fitness in parks within the city of Oswego.
This year, Oswego Harborfest is proud to help sponsor a series of fun, physical-activity based events leading up to the festival. Children who complete each event in the Summer Fitness Challenge are entered to win the grand prize – a scooter, generously provided by Murdock’s Bicycles & Sports.

Oswego attorney Scott DelConte has announced his candidacy for the open Oswego County seat on the New York State Supreme Court, Fifth Judicial District, which includes Onondaga, Oswego, Herkimer, Oneida, Jefferson and Lewis counties. “I believe my professional and life experiences, proven independence and personal values make me well qualified to serve as a State Supreme Court Justice,” DelConte said.
Students, parents and educators from the Oswego City School District are saying “thanks” to State Senator Patty Ritchie for her help in securing $150,000 in funding to help restore sports programs in the school district.
This week, the Oswego Bucs Boosters sent Senator Ritchie a special photo, that included community members holding signs of thanks for her.
Oswego Health will host its first Run For Your Health 5K at 8:30 a.m. on August 13 on the Seneca Hill campus. This event is open to walkers and runners of all levels and is intended to be competitive, while also promoting good health and fitness.
Hard work inside and outside of the classroom has paid dividends for Hannibal High School Class of 2016 graduate Tayler Dence. A standout track athlete and a star student, Dence caught the attention of scholarship committees and earned dozens of year-end awards.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District will bring a ‘no additional tax impact’ $4 million capital project to vote on September 6 at the APW Junior-Senior High School. An open public information meeting is being held on August 25 at 6 p.m. in the dining room of the APW Junior-Senior High School.
Nearly 100 Dennis M. Kenney Middle School students were honored during a recent ceremony celebrating academic achievement, improvement and overall contributions to the Hannibal Central School District. Middle school teachers, administrators and staff members applauded the honorees, which included students in fifth through eighth grades.
