SUNY Oswego faculty member, composer and percussionist Eric Schmitz and four colleagues will honor the jazz and music education legacy of the late Fred Sturm in a “Suite for Fred” performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19, in Sheldon Hall ballroom.

During the early 1900s the buildings inside the old stone fort were abandoned and fell into ruin until renovated in 1928. This c.1918 photograph shows the eerie conditions inside the fort during World War I which no doubt unnerved lone sentries on guard duty.

Fort Ontario Ghost Reveal Set for Oct. 14 – 15

On Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 14 and 15, the Friends of Fort Ontario, Central New York Ghost Hunters, and NYS Parks will host the annual Ghost Reveal and Tour event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. Tours are by advance reservation only. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling (315) 343-4711, by visiting the fort’s museum shop Wednesday through Sunday.

Wood Carving Set At Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center

Penny Kimball, Oswego County artist, will return to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center to teach Wood Carving in Relief as part of the Center’s Nature Inspires series. This hands-on class will be on October 23 and will begin at 1 p.m.
