During the early 1900s the buildings inside the old stone fort were abandoned and fell into ruin until renovated in 1928. This c.1918 photograph shows the eerie conditions inside the fort during World War I which no doubt unnerved lone sentries on guard duty.

Fort Ontario Ghost Reveal Set for Oct. 14 – 15

On Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 14 and 15, the Friends of Fort Ontario, Central New York Ghost Hunters, and NYS Parks will host the annual Ghost Reveal and Tour event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. Tours are by advance reservation only. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling (315) 343-4711, by visiting the fort’s museum shop Wednesday through Sunday.
