Penny Kimball, Oswego County artist, will return to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center to teach Wood Carving in Relief as part of the Center’s Nature Inspires series.
This hands-on class will be on October 23 and will begin at 1 p.m.
Wood relief carving is most easily described as carving pictures into a flat surface.
Participants will be using chisels, gouges, and a mallet to create a delightful bird on a tree branch.
Carving tools and supplies will be provided; however, participants may bring their own set of tools if desired.
Kimball, a resident of Orwell started carving a few years ago.
Her initial purpose for learning to carve was to create marionette heads for her puppets.
However, now she has fallen in love with this art form and wants to carve everything.
The program fee for this artistic workshop is $4 per kit plus a $4 program fee per person.
Pre-registration is required since seating is limited.
For safety reasons, the class is only open to individuals 12 years of age and older.
