At its annual meeting in June, Operation Oswego County presented its 2016 Business Excellence Award to Universal Metal Works in recognition for demonstrating and implementing a collaborative effort between two industry leaders that has resulted in a significant economic development impact for the city of Fulton and Oswego County

Thanks to the efforts of Oswego County Opportunities and the New York State WIC Program, children and their families will soon be able enjoy the process of growing and eating their own fresh vegetables. As part of its Healthy Lifestyles initiative WIC is providing children with the seeds and soil they need to grow their own vegetables.

Members of the 2015-2016 class researched recycling efforts and developed lesson plans which will be passed on to members of the 2016-2017 Global Environment class to teach to elementary students throughout the Fulton City School District.

Although college financial awards are often reserved for members of a graduating class, 16 John C. Birdlebough High School juniors recently earned scholarships of their own.

The Oswego YMCA will offer a youth Total Performance Training program starting July 18. Training groups will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at two varied times. Group I for ages 12-17 will meet 2 – 3 p.m., and Group II ages 8-11 will meet from 3 – 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required at the Oswego YMCA.

A certification class to become a child passenger tech will be offered at the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department beginning August 24. The class will nationally certify attendees for a two-year period as a CPST.

Students from SUNY Upstate Medical University recently spent a week in Oswego County to learn more about practicing medicine in a rural community. During their stay, they served at several clinics, volunteered at the Tri-Oswego event and toured various museums to learn about local history.

Erica Perwitz, a member of the Quirk’s Players and student at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, recently shared her musical talents with those attending a women’s leadership event hosted by State Senator Patty Ritchie at SUNY Oswego.

Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus is reminding drivers that they can have old peeling license plates replaced for free at one of the three Motor Vehicles offices in Oswego County. Backus said that some NYS license plates which were issued a few years ago are peeling and deteriorating due to a manufacturing defect.
