Local Band to Play Event Supporting County Ramp Program

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, President Betty Maute was awarded the coveted Paul Harris Fellow. Harris was a Chicago attorney best known for founding Rotary International. The club is dedicated to “service above self.”
After a mix of either high water river levels and inclement weather, this past Saturday (May 21), eleven members from the local paddling group, Oswego Kayakers, did a litter clean sweep around the Battle Island area of the Oswego River and Barge Canal. The Oswego River is the recipient of waters from both the Oneida and Seneca rivers.
Registrations are open for CNY Arts Center’s 5th annual Arty Day Camp running July 11 – August 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at two locations. The six-week program for 6-16 year olds will offer visual and culinary arts at the downtown Art Shop and Studio, at 47 S. First St.
Fajita Grill restaurant will host a fundraiser for Fort Ontario from 5 to 7 p.m. June 7. The restaurant, located at 244 Route 104 West, will donate 10 percent of take-out and eat-in sales to Friends of Fort Ontario.

June 4 at Battle Island Golf Course, Route 48, Fulton. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. with tee off at 1 p.m.
Jimmie James BBQ will be providing the next Salvation Army Guest Chef dinner on June 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will be serving barbequed pulled pork, coleslaw, salt potatoes, and corn bread. Members of the advisory board will provide desserts and beverages.
This marks the 23rd year of the program, which teaches community trusteeship, leadership skills, current issues and networking to a diverse group of community residents. Leadership Oswego County prepares a select group of county residents to become community leaders of the future.
A non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, Canine Companions for Independence trains retrievers to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
Assemblyman Will Barclay presented World War II veteran Laurence “Sparky” Rector with an Assembly Resolution on May 14. Rector’s story was recorded and filed with the Library of Congress.
