Catcher Natasha Mezza prepares for the Oswego High School Softball Club’s annual fall fundraiser. The event, a chicken BBQ, will be held on September 20 from noon until it’s sold out at Gibby’s Pub, at the corner of West Second and Lake streets, Oswego.

North Volney Methodist Church will hold a Fall Fun Day on October 3 on the church grounds. There will be games for the children with prizes for all, food and drawings for themed baskets. In addition, there will be a magic show from 11 a.m. – noon, followed by a petting zoo from noon – 2 p.m. with 20 different animals.

The 29th annual ALANA Student Leadership Conference at SUNY Oswego, a weeklong multicultural celebration starting Sept. 19, will feature the ever-popular fashion show, a high-energy motivational speaker, leadership workshops, a gala banquet and a concluding performance by the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra. With a theme this year of “Empowerment for the Future,” ALANA annually encourages student leadership, multicultural learning and an atmosphere of mutual understanding at SUNY Oswego.

On Thursday (September 10), the evening art demonstration held from 5 – 7 p.m. at Lakeside Artisans will feature Tim Ames. Ames is a founding member of the artists’ co-operative which is located at 191 W. First St.

Not-for- profit organizations have until Nov. 6 to apply for youth development program grants through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. The Youth Bureau anticipates that limited state grant funding will be available for youth development programs in 2016.

Head Start Pre-K is accepting enrollment applications for the 2015-2016 school year. In Mexico, Head Start Pre-K offers a home-based option. This offers a weekly home visit by the teacher and two classroom group experiences per month.

The Western New England University College of Pharmacy formally welcomed Leah Weiss, of Oswego, NY, into the profession during a White Coat Ceremony held recently on the Western New England University campus.
