Several area residents enrolled at SUNY Oswego took part in off-campus internships in summer 2015 through the college’s Center for Experiential Learning.
Bonnie Finnerty was recently named Sandy Creek Elementary School Principal. Finnerty replaces longtime Principal Sue Ann Archibee who retired at the close of the 2014-15 school year. Finnerty is very familiar with Oswego County having grown up in, and graduated from, neighboring Pulaski High School.
Although local music trailblazer Joe Spereno lost his battle with cancer in May, his memory will live on through a newly created scholarship that will benefit a musically gifted Oswego High School student.
This year’s Fulton Jazz Festival, Aug. 7-8, offers everything from New Orleans’ deep-fried Cajun mac and cheese balls to Philly cheese steak, to pulled pork, to oven-fresh baked goods, to ice cream, and more, said Bill Hubel, festival co-chair.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian Linda Rossiter introduced Heather Tebidor from Youth Works a division of Oswego County Workforce New York. Tebidor spoke about the numerous ways Youth Works helps youth from ages 16-21 prepare for and enter the workforce.
After decades of hiding her uncontrollable self-abuse, Maggie Lamond Simone of SUNY Oswego’s communication studies faculty exposes her life’s experiences in the recently published book “Body Punishment: OCD, Addiction and Finding the Courage to Heal.”
The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.
SUNY Oswego’s health promotion and wellness department recently began offering nutrition as a minor, opening opportunities for students to focus on a booming field that tries to combat national issues with what people eat and why. “Obesity has become public enemy No. 1 in public health,” said department chair Sandra Bargainnier. “We talk about exercise as a gateway to good health. Equally important is good nutrition.”
Rob Rolfe, financial services representative and owner of Harmony Financial Services has announced that Nicole Rinaldo has been named the firm’s client service coordinator. A native of Oswego, Rinaldo had previously worked as a unit secretary at Oswego Hospital and most recently in reception and billing for Dr. James Campbell in Fulton.
