Parents of Special Children presents its annual fundraiser, to be held on May 17, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Hannibal American Legion Post 1552. The family event will include a chicken barbecue, door prizes, raffles, a delicious bake sale and music by Proctor Entertainment and Event Services. There will also be crafts and fun activities lasting throughout the afternoon.
New York Sea Grant and the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District are asking the people who live, work and play along the Lake Ontario shoreline and on North Sandy Pond to share personal stories and photos of storm events to help local communities better assess risk, build storm readiness and resiliency, and reduce future storm damage and recovery expenses.
The program of direct aid seeks to attract and retain undergraduate students to SUNY campuses who have demonstrated high academic achievement and can demonstrate they will contribute to the diversity of the student body.

With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, the Granby Elementary School Parent-Teacher Group recently held an evening of fun, food and crafts for mothers and sons. The turnout was “tremendous” and indicative of parental involvement in their child’s school activities, said PTG co-president Traci Thompson.
In Lucille Mercer’s kindergarten class at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School, students are developing academic skills and learning life lessons as well. As part of a community service initiative, Mercer’s students recently donated a shopping cart full of canned goods to the Phoenix food pantry.
The Oswego Youth Court program will hold training for new members from July 27 to 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oswego City Hall. Students in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to apply for Youth Court training.
During the membership meeting, board president Justin White will present an annual report of the projects and events of the year. Immediately following will be a special keynote presentation entitled “Oswego: 1848 to Present – Restoring an An Aura of Confidence and Optimism,” by John T. Sullivan Jr., former mayor of Oswego.
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 24 Oswego, is offering a Boating Safely class on May 16 at the Sandy Pond Sportsman Association, 3201 County Route 15, Sandy Creek from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
