A major National Science Foundation grant recognizes the research and accomplishments of SUNY Oswego biological sciences faculty member Christopher Chandler while providing research opportunities for his students at Oswego and overseas. The highly competitive NSF Faculty Early Career Development grant is the foundation’s top award “in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research,” according to its website.

The school held a Grandparent Bingo event as a way to teach students the importance of family and community.

Many groups are cleaning up the lake and river walkways, and the Oswego Tree Stewards with the city employees are planting a Honey Locust in Veterans’ Park on the river and a white oak at the Fort Oswego memorial at West First and Lake streets.

The Oswego County Health department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.

Trinity Catholic School will hold its annual Spring Fling on Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s Church in Oswego. Sponsored by the Home & School Association, there will be games, activities and prizes for all ages.

The event, held at the Fulton Junior High School, invited parents, grandparents and professionals to attend free seminars in an effort to provide families with the resources necessary to support their child’s educational growth. In all, 13 seminars were held between two sessions, with participants being able to attend six seminars each.

Thanks to the support of the B and T Sports Shop in Fulton, this year’s “Bundle of Bucks” Charity Raffle is looking to score big on behalf of resident programs that are supported by the event.

Students from Mexico High School’s Jazz Choir visited Albany in conjunction with Music in Our Schools Month, sponsored by New York State School Music Association. Assemblyman Will Barclay met the group there and heard them sing.

On April 11, Northern Oswego County Health Services conducted its annual meeting along with a day-long strategic planning retreat. At the meeting, Michael C. Backus was installed as NOCHSI’s new board president. He succeeds Timothy McClusky, Esq., who served as president for the past eight years.
