Oswego Middle School students decorated hallways during the first holiday open house held recently at the school for family and friends. Students decorated their respective classroom wings and lockers with Christmas themes and decorations for family members to tour and enjoy.
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Dean Michael Barry Division 1 recently contributed food donations to the Oswego City School District for families in need during the holidays.
The three include Barbara Handley-Place, a member since 2000, who has served as auxiliary president between 2007 and 2014, along with secretary Marion Duplessis and treasurer Sheila Gurdziel, who have both been on the board for the past 12 years.
There is a new Safety Committee at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation comprised of students interested in upholding a Safety Conscious Work Environment. The committee includes one student from each Career and Technical Education program who will act as a Safety Advocate back in their individual classrooms.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian Carol Vescio presented Nancy Fox from CNY Arts Center. Fox spoke about the ongoing activities and plans for the center. They are very happy with their new location at the Cayuga Community College Campus.
On December 23, the stock market reached a historic high which can encourage year-end donations to The Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army offers these year-end strategies that can change lives and provide more benefits for a donor,” said John Gleason, C.F.R.E., CAP, director of Planned Giving for The Salvation Army Empire State Division, covering all of upstate New York.
Students collected a variety of foods to be distributed to Leighton School families in time for the holidays. This year, students added a new twist for some fun, and collected new and gently used books that would also be given to families.
The Oswego County Tourism Advisory Council named Carole Sponable, of Phoenix; Legislator Margaret Kastler, District 1, of Lacona; and the Winona Forest Recreation Association as the 2014 Oswego County Tourism Ambassadors at its year-end meeting.
Oswego Middle School eighth grade students in Lori Bradway-Veiga and Danielle Clemens’ Spanish classes celebrated “La Navidad” recently by making their own piñatas.
Fifth grade students from Leighton Elementary School were recently invited by professors at the Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation at SUNY Oswego, for a field trip and demonstrations specific to their classroom science curriculum. Dr. Kestas Bendinskas, editor of The American Journal of Undergraduate Research, conducted demonstrations with chemical reactions that captivated the students.
