One local resident met “Santa” three days early for a very special Christmas. Sharon McCoy is the lucky winner of the Diamond Necklace from the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra, donated generously by JP Jewelers.
APW Elementary School recently held a holiday celebration that invited staff and students to wear pajamas, bring in a stuffed animal and read a favorite book. To kick off the celebration, “The Night Before Christmas” was read over the PA system during morning announcements.
Lanigan students danced at the school’s Holiday Sing-a-long. This holiday season, the school raised more than $550 from bottles and cans for the needy.
Lura M. Sharp Elementary School’s Dare to Dream Awards were presented in a red carpet ceremony to honor those students who best exemplified the character trait of “Empathy” for the month of December.
Eight John C. Birdlebough High School graduates returned to their alma mater recently to discuss a variety of topics related to higher education. The alums served as panelists during the annual College Day at the school, where juniors and seniors asked for advice on everything from college life to financial aid.

Disaster Action Team volunteers from the American Red Cross of CNY provided assistance Monday to 17 people who were displaced from their home by a fire Sunday (Dec. 21) on Cable Road in Williamstown. The family has 11 adults and six children. Since last Monday, the chapter has responded to five fires in Cayuga, Onondaga and Oswego counties and assisted a total of 46 people. The three most recent fires (Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday) were in Williamstown.
Fifth grade Kingsford Elementary School student Kylee Hadcock designed a poster for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s annual Arbor Day Poster Contest for fifth grade students held across New York State. Kylee’s poster was selected unanimously by three adult voters at Kingsford Park School to advance to the final round of the contest.
