Sophia Giovannetti has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester at the University of Vermont. Giovannetti, from Fulton is a first-year student Dietetics Nutrition & Food Sciences major.

The key to success at Fairgrieve Elementary School begins with students attending school on a regular basis. To help promote this message, the Principal Jean Ciesla honored the top attending class from each grade level during a recent Morning Express assembly.

The Food Service team from Bishop’s Commons at St. Luke, led by director Stacia Steinbach, will be adding a little spice to the Warm Up Oswego Festival this weekend when they enter their favorite recipe in the Chili Cook-Off competition taking place on Saturday. The Chili Cook-Off will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. at King Arthur’s Suites.

In an effort to keep up with new age technology and promote education gain, both students and teachers in the Hannibal Central School District are learning how to properly utilize iPads. Technology integration specialist Amy Spath has been providing lessons throughout the district to help guide students and district personnel on how to properly make use of iPads.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Oswego County, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, is recruiting volunteers, age 55 and older, to serve through nonprofit agencies and organizations that meet critical needs, improve lives and help strengthen the Oswego County community. RSVP does this through collaboration with service providers and by focusing on priority areas established by the Corporation for National and Community Service, its federal sponsor.

At the start of the 2014-2015 school year, the Hannibal Central School District began to incorporate a research-based approach to planning instruction to increase student achievement, and positive results are already beginning to show. The district is incorporating data-driven instruction into classrooms, a concept that asks teachers to use results from assessments to drive instructional decision-making.

Job Corps, administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, offers free career technical training for 16 – 24 year olds in auto mechanics, auto body repair, medical & business office, C.N.A., L.P.N, construction, culinary arts, security guard and more.

Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services partnered with National Meals on Wheels and Subaru to “Share the Love” this past holiday season to help feed seniors through its home delivered meals program and at its Dining and Activities Centers. According to OCO Nutrition Services Coordinator Bridget Dolbear the Subaru “Share the Love” event proved to be an excellent way to increase awareness of OCO’ Nutrition Services.

Matthew Vacanti, winner of the Next Great Idea competition, was a recent guest of Oswego Rotary Club member Sue Witmer. Vacanti won the competition with his colorful and protective covering for string instruments like violins, violas and cellos.
