The Oswego County Tourism Advisory Council named Carole Sponable, of Phoenix; Legislator Margaret Kastler, District 1, of Lacona; and the Winona Forest Recreation Association as the 2014 Oswego County Tourism Ambassadors at its year-end meeting.

Oswego Middle School eighth grade students in Lori Bradway-Veiga and Danielle Clemens’ Spanish classes celebrated “La Navidad” recently by making their own piñatas.

Fifth grade students from Leighton Elementary School were recently invited by professors at the Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation at SUNY Oswego, for a field trip and demonstrations specific to their classroom science curriculum. Dr. Kestas Bendinskas, editor of The American Journal of Undergraduate Research, conducted demonstrations with chemical reactions that captivated the students.

The 14 students, who participated in the performances in Mary Alice Flynn’s primary art class, read three Greek myths and acted them out in a special theatrical performance in the same way Greek tragedies were performed in ancient Greece.

Students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School welcomed a guest speaker recently who shared her own personal history and Native American culture through her ancestry in the Onondaga Nation.

Students in Universal Pre-Kindergarten class at Lura M. Sharp Elementary School, with the assistance of former Principal Cathy Adams, recently constructed and decorated gingerbread houses in their class.

To give students in the Phoenix Central School District a glimpse into what their future may hold, nearly three dozen community members recently came to Emerson J. Dillon Middle School to discuss their careers.

A community service project, called “Jingle All the Way,” coordinated by Pulaski High School senior Kaleigh Paternoster and teacher Jill Truax raised money to benefit local families for the holidays and brought together staff members from the Pulaski Middle/Senior High School in the spirit of the holidays.
