‘Slavery by Another Name’ Author To Appear During Black History Month

Pulitzer-Prize winning author Douglas Blackmon, author of the best-selling book “Slavery by Another Name,” will speak at 7 p.m. Feb. 12, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium at SUNY Oswego. Free Healthy Living Classes Offered To Help Those With Chronic Diseases

Residents can learn how to better manage their chronic condition during a free, six-week program that is being taught by experienced health educators. Oswego Health and the Oswego County Department of Health are once again offering the free workshops developed by Stanford University. The classes will be held four times during the year at convenient locations throughout the county.

Students Prepare Blizzard Bags

In the midst of another long cold winter OCO Nutrition Services is ensuring that those in its home delivered meal program have an emergency supply of food on hand in the event that they are unable to receive their regular meal due to inclement weather conditions. With the help of area businesses, community members and student volunteers OCO has been collecting food for, preparing and delivering blizzard bags throughout Oswego County since November.

The Oswego High School winter guard program will kick off its 2015 competitive season at Mexico High School on January 31. The junior varsity guard, competing in the Scholastic Regional A class of the Mid-York Color Guard Circuit, will perform their 2015 program “British Invasion,” which features the music of The Beatles and One Direction.

Quarterly Siren Tests Scheduled for Feb. 2 – 6 in Oswego County

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office announces that the system of emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point will be tested during the week of Feb. 2 through 6 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The test is a portion of the regular testing program of the Oswego County emergency alert system. The public is not required to take protective action during the siren tests.

Quirk’s Players to Stage Thoroughly Modern Millie

Quirk’s Players of G. Ray Bodley High School is proud to announce that it will present the fun Broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Performances are scheduled for March 5, 6 and 7 in the Bodley H.S. Auditorium. Curtain time is set for 7:30 each evening. Additionally there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on March 7. Tickets will be available at the door.
