Lakeside Artisans, 191 W. First St., is offering a class in hand painted silk scarves, continuing its series of creative educational experiences for adults in our community. On December 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Cindy Schmidt will offer a class in how to use the resist and dye to decorate a silk scarf.
Oswego County Workforce New York, Oswego Health, The Manor at Seneca Hill, and the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi, formerly Oswego County BOCES) are working together to offer a new opportunity in the healthcare field. Representatives recently met with more than a dozen job seekers to discuss a new specialized training program being offered for certified nursing assistants.
Joseph Wicks was a recent guest at Oswego Rotary. He discussed efforts by the Bureau of Tobacco Control to encourage private business owners to draft policy regarding smoking on or near their business.
The event asked the students in the school to wear their favorite hooded sweatshirt for the day and make a donation to the Oswego County Humane Society. The donations will help the OCHS “end homelessness one dog at a time.”
After having received recognition for its spring 2014 entry, the Blue Team at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation’s Stepping Stones Day Program has submitted their latest creation to the fall 2014 “Made by Milk” Carton Construction Contest sponsored by Evergreen Packaging.
Fifth and sixth grade and seventh and eighth grade had separate celebrations in the school cafeteria complete with food, decorations and prize drawings to recognize student achievement.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Dollars For Scholars organization will be holding a fundraiser at the Cicero Five Below store on December 12, 13 and 14. Ten percent of the total dollars spent will be donated to APW Dollars for Scholars.
The Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club donated 137 dictionaries to each third grade student at Michael A Maroun Elementary. Every year, each third grade classroom selects two representatives to meet with Rotary Club representatives to accept the dictionaries.
On November 8, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) hosted the annual “Build ’Em and Bust ’Em” Bridge Building Competition for 600 pupils from local elementary, middle and high school students throughout Central New York.
Waterbury Hall, a 211-bed residence hall that opened in 1960 along the lakeshore at SUNY Oswego, will close to residents by Dec. 13, be emptied of all its contents by Dec. 22 and reopen in August 2015 after $8.8 million in renovations.
