Leighton Elementary School held its annual spelling bee recently. MaryKate Cloonan captured first place while Ava and Anna Cloonan finished second and third, respectively.

Herkimer College awarded academic honors to 491 students for the fall 2014 semester. Of those students awarded honors, 320 were named to the Dean’s List for earning a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79.

One local resident met “Santa” three days early for a very special Christmas. Sharon McCoy is the lucky winner of the diamond necklace from the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra, donated generously by JP Jewelers.

Members of the Fulton Polish Home will be holding their annual Friday fish dinners beginning on February 6. Serving will be from 4 until 7:30 p.m. Dinners will run each Friday through Good Friday, April 3.

Oswego Children’s Theater will host auditions for its annual teen production on January 20 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mosher family, 151 E. Seneca St. This year’s production will be the classic play Our Town.

Amplify Learning Core Knowledge, which is a rigorous English language arts program aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards, helps students develop better literacy skills.
