Birdlebough Sends 11 Students to Area All State
John C. Birdlebough High School was proud to have 11 students selected to participate in the NYS School Music Association’s annual Area All State Music Festival, hosted at Oswego High School this year.

The Resident Council at Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton held a food drive collecting non-perishable food items on behalf of the Fulton Salvation Army, anticipating their special need as the holiday season and winter fast approaches. The Resident Council also held a bake sale in conjunction with the food drive, with the proceeds donated to the Salvation Army.
An informational Financial Aid Night will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 3 in the JCB auditorium. There will be presentations and discussions about a broad range of topics, and students, parents and guardians are welcome to ask questions.
An effort is under way to collect 1,000 pairs of boots and shoes throughout Oswego County by Dec. 15. The shoes will be delivered to the Rescue Mission in Syracuse, which works with various charities throughout the region to deliver shoes and boots in good condition to those in need. Assemblyman Barclay’s office will be collecting shoes for the drive.
Thanks to a recent grant from Meals on Wheels Association of America and the Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar Association, Oswego County Opportunities Nutrition Services is beginning to go “green.” The grant was towards the purchase of a “green” vehicle to help make the program’s Home Delivered Meal service more cost efficient.
The Oswego County Legislature recognized November 17 as National Adoption Day during its monthly meeting. With thousands of children currently in foster care in New York State, outreach to adoptive families is a critical step in moving children into loving, permanent homes.
DuFore’s has donated a ladies half carat halo diamond ring valued at $1,600, which will be used for a drawing in support of the United Way’s Annual Campaign. The diamond ring is currently on display at DuFore’s.
Sirens in a new public warning system being installed by Exelon Generation and Entergy Nuclear will be ready for testing soon, and residents may hear individual soundings of sirens in the coming weeks.
When Fulbright Scholar Faith Maina of SUNY Oswego realized her Kenyan post-graduate students and even some new faculty members in her class at Moi University would encounter difficulties publishing the research papers they had prepared for her class, she took matters into her own hands. The result is a new book, “Nurturing Reflexive Practice in Higher Education: Educators Engaged in Action Research Projects in an Institution of Higher Learning in Kenya.”
Lakeside Artisans, 191 W. First St., is offering a class in hand painted silk scarves, continuing its series of creative educational experiences for adults in our community. On December 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Cindy Schmidt will offer a class in how to use the resist and dye to decorate a silk scarf.
