Fun For All at the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival

On October 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival will fill Washington Square Park with food vendors crafters, fresh from the farm produce, music, games and rides for children of all ages, and of course…giant pumpkins! The Great Pumpkin Weigh-In, with Just Push Play Productions serving as emcee, begins October 4 at 10 a.m.

Third Rail ensemble to immerse audiences in fort’s history, mystique

Third Rail Projects, a Brooklyn-based ensemble renowned for creating dance theater pieces for unusual locations, will present “Anthem,” a site-specific project at Oswego’s Fort Ontario Historic Site at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11, as part of SUNY Oswego’s Artswego Performing Arts Series. The four performances are offered as a free experience for the community, but advance tickets are required and attendance will be limited to 75 participants per show.

Homemade baked goods and themed baskets, along with opportunities to take home either a handmade Victorian Doll house, or an American Girl Doll, are just part of the this year’s Oswego Health Auxiliary fall bazaar. An Oswego business, Harbor Towne Gifts and Souvenirs, has also graciously donated a nativity set by Willow Tree.

More than 500 seniors packed the Fulton Ice Arena recently for State Senator Patty Ritchie’s annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair. The event featured more than 50 local organizations and businesses offering health screenings, tips and tools for seniors looking to improve their well-being and stay active. At the event, Senator Ritchie also honored Peg McKinstry, Carole Sponable and Carol Vescio with her Senior Volunteer award.

Statistics show that 1 in every 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. This year, around 39,620 women and 410 men are likely to die from breast cancer in the United States. For Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership those are unacceptable numbers, and ones they are dedicated to reducing in Oswego County.

SUNY Oswego’s 52nd Juried Student Exhibition to open Oct. 17

SUNY Oswego’s 52nd annual Juried Student Exhibition will open with a free public reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17, in Tyler Art Gallery at Penfield Library. Entry is open to any SUNY Oswego student in any artistic medium, whether two- or three-dimensional. The exhibition will run through Nov. 9 in the gallery’s second-floor display space.
