Committee members from the United Way’s Annual Holiday Luncheon met at St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Oswego to discuss details for this year’s Stone Soup Holiday Luncheon. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. on November 13 at St. Joseph’s Parish Center, West First Street.
I have a wonderful black lab named Barney, about nine months old, and I think he needs a friend. I work during the day and play with him a lot in the morning and when I get home, but he is alone during the day. The problem is that my landlord will only allow one dog, so I am thinking maybe I should get him a cat to play with. Do you think that’s a good idea?
The Oswego Community now has two fully functioning community gardens. In 2012, the idea to create a community garden in Oswego was introduced. Since then, the garden was developed on East Schuyler Street, including 60 occupied private plots as well as eight community plots. The East Side Gardens were successful enough to inspire two SUNY Oswego student to spearhead a movement for a West Side Gardens to be made.
Major General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General, announced the recent reenlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.
Thirty-one SUNY Potsdam students recently completed study abroad programs across the globe, both in short-term service journeys and in summer-long experiences. The students included Miranda Sereno from Oswego, who completed a travel course in Australia over the summer.
Smoked salmon, barbecued chicken, live music and a professional fish-cleaning competition were among the many colorful activities that highlighted the Fucillo Dodge Salmon River Expo and Salmon River Festival held Oct. 11 and 12 in Pulaski. Thousands of anglers and their families visited the village over Columbus Day weekend to fish and watch the action on the Salmon River, and local organizations and businesses had plenty of activities and food for all to enjoy.
Fulton Rotary President Lori Greeney presented a check to Joan Cooney. Joan is a parent and active board member of the Fulton Youth Hockey Association.
At the presentation, the seniors were provided a helpful tool that readily makes their medical history and list of medications available to emergency responders, if they are summoned to a senior’s home.
Continental Arms Collectors Association will feature a military exhibit at the Oswego Elks Lodge annual Veterans’ Day dinner on November 7. The lodge is located at 132 W. Fifth St. The public is welcome to view the exhibit beginning at 5 p.m.
Mexico High School graduate Austin Chawgo, of Oswego, is a member of the Colgate University Class of 2018. Of the 8,715 applications to Colgate last year, just 26 percent were accepted.
