The Pulaski Middle/Senior High School held a special Honors Recognition Dinner for students and their families to recognize outstanding academic achievement in the 2013-14 school year. Students who maintained a 95 or better average for the entire academic school year were honored and presented with achievement pins that featured a shield symbolizing knowledge to signify the special honor.

Eighty-four humans and 44 dogs braved the cold and wind on October 19 to attend “Every Dog Has Its Day,” the Oswego County Humane Society’s 5K-run/walk and 1-mile family walk at Fallbrook Recreation Center. “In spite of the weather, everyone had fun celebrating the special bond between people and pets and we are grateful to the business community for its support of this event,” said Jo Piersma, one of the event co-chairs.

The date of the November 4 Oswego Board of Education meeting has been changed to November 3.

Ellen Wahl, director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, will be visiting Oswego County Opportunities’ dining centers during the month of November. The purpose for the visits is to introduce prospective volunteers to a broad spectrum of volunteer opportunities offered through RSVP.

Rotarian Tom Abelgore introduced Mike Allen, director of Oswego County E911. Allen said that E911 opened in November 1997 and he has been the director for the past eight years. He told the Rotarians that the Oswego County Center received 196,000 calls this past year.

Air Force Airman Alan B. Ryant graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2014 graduate of Paul V. Moore High School, Central Square.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee presented a proclamation to members of Oswego County Opportunities’ Services to Aid Families designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. People are encouraged to wear the purple ribbon which symbolizes courage, honor, survival and dedication to ending domestic violence.

Newborns at Oswego Hospital will go home with a warm fleece blanket thanks to the creativity of students who belong to Oswego High School’s Interact Club. Club Advisor Warren Shaw explained that this project kicks off the club’s activities for the year and provides a way for the kids to get to know one another and build team work at the beginning of the school year.

Pulaski students Audrey Monson and Brittany VanDuzer participated in the First Inaugural Honors Choir Festival at Roberts Wesleyan College.
