State Senator Patty Ritchie is teaming with the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization and other local leaders to urge people to stand up for Fort Drum by signing an online petition launched today at www.StandUpForDrum.com
The community is invited to watch a recently released and very popular family friendly movie at First United Church, 33 S. Third S., on August 15. The movie will be shown in the church parking lot and will start at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
A visit from the Sons of Sam Motorcycle Club made for a wonderful and fun-filled summer night for some residents at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. Members of the club’s Oswego chapter stopped at the healthcare residence as part of their weekly ride and spent some time socializing and talking about their club, their motorcycles and true to the club’s mission, shared some comradery with a local veteran.
For the second consecutive summer, Human Concerns, Oswego’s emergency food pantry along with AmeriCorps member, Evan Oustrich, is conducting a backpack drive to aid the United Way’s Stuff-a-Bus campaign. There is a great need throughout Oswego County for backpacks so that students can carry their belongings to school.
The following area students were named to the dean’s list at Paul Smith’s College during the spring 2014 semester. Each earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction:
“Who’s On First?” will be performed on the stage of the Frances Marion Brown Theater in the Arts Center at Fort Ontario Park, on Sept. 12, 13, 19 and 20 with a concluding matinee on Sept. 21. This is the 76th year the Oswego Players have been presenting quality community theater in Oswego.
Partnering with more than 20 businesses and organizations, as well as school districts throughout Oswego County, the annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign collects donations of school supplies for distribution to less fortunate students throughout Oswego County.
I just adopted a new cat, Marvella, (no I did not choose that name, but she’s three and she seems to know it) and she seems very loving and friendly except for one thing. She will jump on my lap and act really affectionate and I will pet her and then suddenly she will hiss and try to bite me and jump down like she is really mad at me.
Dance is back at Arty Camp with Jennica Vehrs at CNY Arts Center August 11-15 along with Theatre classes with Dan Williams. Students receive morning art, dance or theatre classes with professionals followed by lunch, which is provided, then group activities and art projects.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging will co-sponsor a free training program Aug. 27 for professionals who want to learn more about combating elder abuse and the financial exploitation of older people. The training will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Oswego Elks Lodge, 132 W. Fifth St. Registration and lunch are free. Registration is required by Aug. 15.
