A sizzling summer of Arty fun is well under way for children at CNY Arts Center’s fourth annual Arty Day Camp at the center, 357 State St. In the first week of camp students received morning art and theatre classes with professionals followed by lunch, which was provided, then group activities and art projects.
This summer, 85 students from eight countries enrolled in Summer Intensive English, which aims to advance their listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, grammar and writing — complete with visits to New York City, Niagara Falls and the Thousand Islands to further sharpen their skills.
The group of teens, under the direction of the library’s AmeriCorps member Vanessa Langdon, meets weekly to improve the library’s teen offerings as well as participate in a book club. The group took to weeding and picking up litter to beautify the grounds and complete an AmeriCorps project.
Despite the fact that the fish weren’t biting during a recent trip, residents at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego have been busy catching fun all summer long. Trips to favorite destinations like Bullhead Point on Lake Neatahwanta in Fulton for some fishing have been keeping folks active and connected with their community.
The Oswego City School District today announced a free and reduced price meal policy for Oswego area school children. Local school officials have adopted the following family eligibility criteria to assist them in determining eligibility:

The Zonta Club of Oswego will provide the next Oswego County Salvation Army Guest Chef Dinner on August 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will be serving roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, and tossed salad. Members of the advisory board and Zonta will provide desserts and beverages.
The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, long-term home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.
More than 675 transfer students have reserved places at SUNY Oswego for fall 2014. Classes start Aug. 25.
