Bernice J Bartlett of Fulton received academic honors from the College of Community and Public Affairs at Binghamton University by making the University’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester.
I just moved into a new house just outside of Oswego and there are woods across the street. At night sometimes I hear this eerie howling noise. At first, I had no idea what it was, but a neighbor told me there is a pack of coyotes living there and to keep my animals inside as they might attack them.
Take a trip back to when life was simple. Come to the North Volney Methodist Church on August 9 and see those wonderful cars we remember from our youth as well as some of the cars of today. The car show will be from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. on the church grounds with free admission.
The Fulton YMCA will once again partner with Red Baron Pizza to bring the Loop Around the Lake Kids’ Fun Run on August 23. The event offers a variety of distances for young runners of all ages. Distances include 70 yards for 5 years and under, a ¼ mile for 6-7 year olds, ½ mile for 8-9 years and 1 mile for 10-12 year olds.
In conjunction with Canal Splash, come celebrate Magic In Minetto, on Aug 9 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. It’s a free fun family festival. that includes music, children’s craft making and face painting, artisan craft vendors, ice cream sundaes and more.
Recently, the Oswego County Autism Task Force held a reception to honor its nominees and winners of the “Friend of Autism” award. For the sixth year in a row, the Task Force has recognized those individuals in our community that have been a true inspiration to those families living with Autism. In the past, award winners were announced at the spring Family Fun Walk for Autism. This year, the group held a reception to honor all those who were nominated.
Mary Costigan, a Rotary Club member and the director of the Michaud Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fulton, brought an interesting guest to lunch. Mary brought Frank Latimer, one of the residents under her care. Frank is 91 years old.
Oswego AmeriCorps member Stacey Petersen coordinates the Summer Reading Program at the Pulaski Public Library giving kids of all ages and abilities a chance to be better connected to their community.
This summer, there will be an opportunity for any volunteers to give back to their community. There will be donation boxes to collect items to help the United Friends of Homeless Animals, the UFHA. There will be a movie night event on August 5 for all ages.
The deadline for registration to take part in the second annual ‘Fulton Idol’ vocal music experience has been set for Thursday. Contestants may, however, walk in on August 4 when the program begins. The second annual Fulton Idol will take place at First United Church, 33 S. Third St., August 4 through 8, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Congressman Dan Maffei visited the East Side Fire Station on July 25 to check out the new self contained breathing apparatus recently put into service by The Oswego Fire Department. Through the efforts of the congressman, the Oswego Fire Department along with the towns of Minetto, Oswego, Cody, and Granby Center received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant for a total of 121 breathing apparatus for the five local departments.
