September 18 from 7 to 9 p.m., will be the final Casey’s Café at Mexico Point Park. Spend a relaxing evening enjoying art and music with tea, coffee and desserts. Featured in this month’s café will be artist Kelley Sheldon. Sheldon is a local artist from Scriba and a Mexico High School alumnus.
Oswego Rotary recently hosted Jordan Karp from the Adirondack Distilling Company. Karp is one of the original founding members of the distillery. Doors opened in the fall of 2012 with a mission to produce New York’s finest handcrafted spirits.
National Grid supports the cause of literacy in Oswego County as a 2014 ‘Making a Difference’ sponsor of the eighth annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers. “We greatly appreciate this generous, continued support and partnership with National Grid,” said Diane Cooper-Currier, executive director of Oswego County Opportunities. “They have been a considerable advocate of OCO over the years and we are thrilled to have them participate again this year.”
On October 28, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at River Vista Center in Fulton from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This day-long symposium is something you won’t want to miss. The United Baptist Church of Scriba, located at 5111 State Route 104E, will have a coffeehouse on September 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. The band Lost and Found will be playing its unique blend of Christian contemporary hits from today and yesterday. Free refreshments will be provided during intermission.
New business is opening in the Oswego City. After Staples closing there was left only one computer repair shop in the city. With PC Masters opening a store in the city you will have another option.
Taxes will be collected beginning September 1, 2014 to October 1, 2014 with no interest. From October 2, 2014 to October 31, 2014, with 2% penalty.
Oswego Lions Club will hold its ninth annual “Cow Chip Bingo” fundraiser on September 13 at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego. The “Cow Chip Bingo” will take place on a special field that will be sectioned off into 520 square yard plots. “Deeds” are being sold for $5 for each square yard plot. Once “Poopsie” the cow is released onto the field, whoever owns the plot that “Poopsie” fertilizes, will walk away with $500.
The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, long-term home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.
SUNY Oswego has awarded $3,000 Merit Scholarships to a select group of students who are starting at the college in fall 2014. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.
