Operation Oswego County’s 2012 Annual Report Receives ‘Certificate of Excellence’ Award
Operation Oswego County, Oswego County’s designated economic development organization, was recently awarded “certificate of excellence” for its 2012 Annual Report by the New York State Economic Development Council at its 2014 marketing and promotional materials award competition.

CNY Arts Center Makes Oswego State Downtown Debut
Artists from CNY Arts Center are making their debut in downtown Oswego with an art show entitled Empowered Through the Arts: The finest of CNY Arts Center at the Oswego State Downtown Gallery at 186 W. First St. The art exhibit featuring several local artists will open May 31 with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. and run through July 12.

Diapers for Darlings Aids Local Needy Families
Recently, Theresa Kline and Mary J. Simard, Oswego AmeriCorps volunteers, organized Diapers for Darlings. Several businesses and agencies donated diapers, baby wipes and formula and other items to the cause. All donations will benefit families through the Emergency Services Department at Catholic Charities of Oswego County.

Katherine E. Abramski of Oswego was one of nearly 550 students who were awarded degrees at St. Lawrence University’s Commencement ceremony, which was held on May 18 in Canton.

At a recent Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian David Nethercott introduced David DeFrancis, the director of Outreach for Aurora of CNY, Inc. Aurora covers Oswego, Onondaga and Cayuga counties and serves a population who suffers hearing and vision loss.

The Oswego Lions Club with host the third annual River’s Edge “handmade” Craft Show on June 8.
The event will take place along the beautiful river’s edge, on West Liner Park, in Oswego, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Oswego School District Recognizes Retirees
Laura Ryder, the Director of Literacy and former Frederick Leighton Elementary School Principal; and Tim Bristol, who served the district for 34 years as an auto mechanic, were recognized by Superintendent of Schools Ben Halsey and Board of Education President Kathleen Allen. Other employees whose letters of retirement were also accepted included Frederick Ensworth, Pauline Vona and Thomas Dehm.

Free collaborative problem-solving training to be held in New Haven
Oswego County families, educators and service providers will meet to explore how to better understand how to work effectively with children’s challenging behavior using collaborative problem solving at 6 p.m. June 11 in the New Haven Elementary School library. The training is free through a grant funded by Family Support Services in the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities.
