Career and Technical Education students from Oswego County BOCES joined well more than 2,000 students from other BOCES, technical career centers and high schools for the 48th Annual New York State Leadership and SkillsUSA Championships.
Each month Oswego Health offers two free diabetes support groups led by the health system’s certified diabetes educator. A group meets the first Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m. at Springside at Seneca Hill located halfway between Fulton and Oswego on Route 45A.
May 3 marks the third annual I Love My Park Day at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. I Love My Park Day is a statewide event to improve and enhance New York’s state parks and historic sites, bringing visibility to the entire state park system and its needs. Volunteers from across the state will participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events at New York State parks and historic sites.
The Friends of the Oswego Library will hold a benefit on May 20. It will be held at The Lake Ontario Conference Center at Alexandria’s. Bar opens a 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The movie is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
On February 4, Matthew Gingerich had an accident with his chainsaw and still hasn’t been able to return to work. The miracle is that he can see and he survived. A benefit will be held May 4 from noon to 4 p.m. at Jimmie James BBQ, 5048 Route 104.
SUNY Oswego students collected six awards at the fifth annual SUNYwide Film Festival and Symposium held in April at SUNY Fredonia. Peter Myers’ animated film “Gone Fishing” won first place in the animation category.

The H. Lee White Marine Museum will present the play “The Great Rope” written by Rosemary Nesbitt and directed by Jonel Langenfeld this summer on August 2, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Fort Ontario parade grounds. This production is a collaboration between the maritime museum, Fort Ontario State Historic Site and CNY Arts Center.
Area runners and walkers can support Oswego Health’s cancer outreach and educational support services, as they participate in the health system’s annual Charity Walk/Run on May 17. The event is dedicated to those in our community who have been affected by cancer.
Unfortunately, the High Bank Holdup scheduled for today (at Fulton Speedway) has been cancelled due to bad weather. We will see everyone back here next Saturday for our 2014 points opener.
