Students from school districts throughout Central New York showcased their athletic abilities and team spirit during the Special Olympic games held at Cicero-North Syracuse High School on Thursday. “Play hard, play smart and have fun,” said emcee Breanna Stewart, former CNS basketball standout and a star for the University of Connecticut’s hoops team.
Eight seniors at G. Ray Bodley High School received the 2014 Scholarships for Academic Excellence award from John B. King, Jr., the current Commissioner of Education of the State of New York.
Varsity Softball Pitcher Megan Brown and her teammates are playing with a mission this season. The mission is to strikeout pediatric cancer and support Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.
Tevin Simard, a senior at G. Ray Bodley, has been awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship. The program selects 1,000 students each year to receive an all-expenses paid scholarship to a four year college or university of their choosing.

Amanda Austin from Sigma Delta Tau sorority, SUNY Oswego, lost someone special in her life to a car crash. She suggested to her sorority that they host a volleyball tournament to raise money for teen driving safety in honor of her friend, age 18, a passenger in the vehicle.
From high school to college, this senior artist has big plans. Abigail Shatrau is now 18 and almost ready to go out in the world, but life started out a bit different from what her plans are. Born and raised in Fulton, Abigail has grown from crazy noodle art, glitter and glue, Lego building, paper people building and much more to a wonderful artist.
The Oswego Lions Club with host the third annual Rivers Edge “handmade” Craft Show on June 8, along the beautiful river’s edge on West Liner Park. Hours for the craft show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
