It is anticipated the 2014-15 budget will be the major topic of discussion during the Tuesday meeting. The board will act upon the BOCES Administrative budget and election of BOCES board members as well as the Oswego City School District budget on Wednesday.
The Oswego County Counselors Association, in conjunction with SUNY Oswego, is pleased to debut an evening college fair this spring. This event will be the first of its kind at SUNY Oswego, and will be held at the Campus Center on April 28 from 6-8 p.m.
The Minetto Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual chicken BBQ on April 26 from 11 a.m. until sold out at the fire station, 12 Barrett Drive. The dinner menu features ½ chicken, salt potatoes, baked beans, macaroni salad and a dinner roll for $9.
The night sky above Oswego Harbor will sparkle once again with the return of Fireworks by Grucci presented by Entergy for the 27th year on July 26. This centerpiece Harborfest event is sponsored by Entergy Nuclear, owner-operator of the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba.
This spring, The Oswego Children’s Theater will continue its tradition of presenting plays especially targeted for issues concerning teenagers and young adults, with its production of two one act plays, “Juvie” and “Alky.” They will be performed at the First Congregational Church of New Haven.
Between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., 15 percent of the day’s proceeds will go to the Friends group to support programming, restoration, and AmeriCorps staff at Fort Ontario State Historic Site. Customers who call Friendly’s at (315) 342-2233 20 minutes in advance may have their order ready for pickup.
Quirk’s Players of Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School began a new tradition at this year’s annual school musical, Alumni Night. The local theatre group welcomed back graduates who were involved in the plays and musicals at G. Ray Bodley High School since the school opened.
The Oswego County Department of Social Services will host an informational meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. May 5, at the DSS office, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents.
The Oswego County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic for cats, dogs, and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m. May 7, at the Oswego County Highway Garage, 957 Centerville Road. “Immunizing pets is an effective way to reduce the risk of human exposure to rabies,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Oswego County. On hand to receive the proclamation were representatives of the Child Protection Advisory Council and Oswego County Department of Social Services child protective program leaders.
