It is always a thrill to see students excited about learning experiences and one of those moments recently occurred at the Oswego Middle School. Oswego Middle School science teacher Catherine Celeste saw her students become totally immersed in a class project.
Two Charles E. Riley Elementary School students had their artistic work displayed at the NYSATA 24th Annual Legislative Student Art Exhibit in Albany.
G. Ray Bodley’s Women’s Choir and Concert Choir performed before an audience March 20 as part of Music In Our Schools Month.
Hannibal Senior High Band and Chorus celebrated Music In Our Schools Month March 18 with a concert in the auditorium. Under the direction of Shirley Terrinoni, the Senior Jazz Band performed three numbers.
Students from the John C. Birdlebough High School in the Phoenix Central School District have recently earned several outstanding musical distinctions and honors. Twenty instrumental music students were selected to represent the school district at the Oswego County Music Educators Association (OCMEA) All-County Band Festival.
A tisket a tasket, design your very own Easter Basket. Lakeside Artisans’ fabric artist, Kathy Fenlon, is offering an Easter Basket class on April 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Lakeside Artisans is located at 191 W. First St. in Canal Commons in Oswego.
Members of the fourth grade Glee Club at Fairgrieve Elementary School were recently recognized at Morning Express as part of Music In Our Schools Month. Students are led by music teacher Hope Lawton. The Glee Club is a great introduction to chorus, which is offered in fifth and sixth grade. The group performs at the school’s virtue of the month award ceremonies.
The annual Minetto Elementary School musical played before an enthusiastic audience of students, parents and community members. Under the direction of Minetto music teacher Susan Olinsky, the students presented “The Trial of Alice in Wonderland.”
The Oswego AmeriCorps launched a new program in February that provides financial literacy and housing services to economically disadvantaged individuals in the county. The Oswego Economic Development Corps supplements the mentoring, fitness and nutrition activities for youth that AmeriCorps has provided locally for several years.
The Oswego County Historical Society is currently organizing the 27th Annual “Not So Silent Auction” fundraiser to be held on April 25 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the American Foundry at 246 W. Seneca St. Tickets are $20 and will be available for purchase at the door the day of the event.
