Meals and math were served up at Fairgrieve Elementary School’s Lunch and Learn on March 11 in the cafeteria. Third graders displayed their math prowess during a brain gym exercise, which got their bodies and their minds moving.
Leadership and learning go hand-in-hand and truly capture the essence of a new student group that was established this school year at the Sandy Creek Middle School. School Principal Carolyn Shirley introduced the idea of a student leadership group as a way to develop leadership skills and promote multi-grade level collaboration at the school.
The school has teamed up with Hikers for the Homeless, a Phoenix-based non-profit organization to help create over 100 Easter baskets for people in the district’s community that do not have a permanent residence.
Oswego County Federal Credit Union paid out $4,313 to winners of its recent member referral program, said William Carhart, CEO. “Five new referred members and five referring members each had 30 seconds in the OCFCU ‘Pod’ of Gold prize vault on St. Patrick’s Day to win their portion of $2,500 in cash. One winner was able to grab over $600 in thirty seconds.
Second graders at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School learned about fruits, vegetables and farming during Agricultural Literacy Week on Tuesday. Jan Smith, of Cornell Cooperative Extension, offered the students some food for thought as she read “Who Grew My Soup.”
Spring hasn’t sprung, but music was certainly in full bloom on the evening of March 17 at John C. Birdlebough High School. The school welcomed the Phoenix Community Band for their much anticipated Spring concert performance.

Granby Elementary was treated to a royal parade recently, as Kindergarten teachers lead their students through the halls, wearing jeweled crowns and carrying scepters. The parade was part of a culminating activity on the Common Core listening and speaking unit on kings and queens.
The public is invited to learn about the NYS graduation requirements and high school exiting options. There will be a program at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Board of Education Room at the Fulton Education Center.
