Volney Elementary School students attended a spirit assembly Feb. 28 in recognition of their positive behavior and for being role models. Principal Lisa Garofalo gave certificates to one student from each classroom that exemplified the character trait of honesty.

On February 28, classes at the school commemorated the 100th day of the 2013-14 school year with celebrations to recognize months of hard work and academic achievements. Students came to school dressed as 100 year old versions of themselves and classroom lessons for the day revolved around the number 100.

The Salmon River International Sport Fishing Museum will host a presentation by Gus Aull III of Camillus at 3:30 p.m. March 16. Aull will share childhood memories and display his collection of items that were once owned by “Outdoor Life” fishing editor and author Ray Bergman.

Erik R. Vandermark of Lacona, received a master of science degree in basic science from Clarkson University on December 31, 2013.

The Phoenix Central School District, in conjunction with the Central New York School Boards Association and local Boards of Cooperative Educational Services would like to invite parents, community members, educators and business leaders to the ‘Our Kids, Our Schools, Our Future!’ event on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at West Genesee High School.

Outstanding students from each class, kindergarten through grade six, were selected to receive the Fairgrieve Elementary School Principal’s Award. Principal Jean Ciesla presents the awards quarterly to recognize role model students for regularly upholding the school’s following four behavioral expectations.

Navy Seaman Apprentice David E. Johnson, son of David E. and Rebecca L. Johnson of Oswego, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

The Residents of Michaud Residential Health Services saw a very special preview of the G. Ray Bodley High School – Quirk’s Players upcoming performance of “Curtains.” Students brought the production to Michaud and performed selections from the exciting murder mystery Broadway musical.

Famed musical composer Aaron Fox (Logan Carvey) and lyricist Georgia Hendricks (Kaitlyn Kinney) have put aside their personal differences to collaborate again.
