Tales intertwining history, animals and imagination were woven together by Volney Elementary School fourth-graders during a presentation to family members on Dec. 6. Twenty-one students in Erin Brewster’s class displayed their creativity as they read stories they wrote and illustrated as part of the English language arts curriculum.
The Oswego Public Library’s Library Learning Center will offer a four-part Introduction to Computer for Spanish Speakers workshop on January 9, 16, 23 and 30. Each class is free and runs from 10 a.m. to noon.
Certified Nurse Midwife Theresa Check has joined the staff of Oswego Hospital’s maternity center and the local practice, Oswego County OB-GYN. Check recently graduated from The Ohio State University, where she earned a Master’s of Science in Nursing after studying midwifery and women’s health.
All are invited to attend Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. for its annual Christmas Eve service. There will be special music for everyone to join in along with regular carols.

Volunteers from the Sandy Creek National Honor Society spent several hours ensuring that hundreds of less fortunate children in the Sandy Creek area had a happy Christmas morning and their families had a wonderful holiday meal this year. The students, along with their advisor, Casey Vallance, volunteered their time and energy to help local community groups wrap and box the holiday goodwill.
This winter, Thomas Handley from Oswego, will study abroad in Tanzania through the University of Delaware.
The Oswego Triathalon Club has set up a blood drive in honor of Cooper Levine to help ensure that all who need this life-saving gift will have it.
Air Force Airman Zebulun C. Emmons graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Emmons earned distinction as an honor graduate.
