The Friends of Oswego County Hospice are hosting its third annual “Lights of Remembrance” memorial tree lighting on December 5, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Oswego County Federal Credit Union on Scenic Avenue in Mexico. The tree lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m.

As part of the Oswego Middle School Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative Principal Mary Beth Fierro presented Huckabee Fitzgerald with a “Once a Buc Always a Buc” T-shirt.

Supporters of the United Way of Greater Oswego County filled St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Oswego as the community came together to enjoy a delicious meal of soup, salad, rolls and dessert at United Way’s “Stone Soup” Luncheon. The annual event serves as a fundraiser for food pantries in Oswego County.

Correction Administrator Michael K. Stafford of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office joined ninety-two county jail administrators from Sheriff’s Offices around the state to attend the annual Jail Administrators’ Continuing Education Program at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs recently.

State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding the New York State Public Service Commission’s decision to put on hold its plans to make changes to the 315 area code.

Operation Oswego County, Oswego County’s designated economic development organization, was recently awarded best in class for its 2012 Annual Report, at The Northeastern Economic Developers Association’s 2013 literature and promotions award competition. NEDA represents 11 states.

Rev. Richard Klafehn, pastor of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oswego and Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fulton, has announced that assistant priest Rev. Anne Wichelns will be welcomed to the ministry during a special combined Celebration of New Ministry installation service to be held November 21.

There will be a benefit December 7 from 1-6 p.m. at VFW Post 8823, Hastings/Parish for Wayne Derby. The 48-year-old friend, family and neighbor needs life-saving surgery.

The money will be used for a program that will align tobacco cessation resources and services for pregnant women and mothers of young children by working collaboratively with the Oswego County Health Department, primary care and ob-gyn providers and Oswego County Opportunities.
