In recognition of Domestic Violence Month, OCO’s Services to Aid Families Program has planned a number of activities and events to help raise awareness of domestic violence in the county and educate the community on the services that are available through SAF.
The Oswego County Historical Society and the John D. Murray Firefighters Museum will co-host an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Firefighters’ Museum, 35 E. Seneca St., (behind Oswego Fire Department).
Their staged presentations of “Sorry, Wrong Number,” “I of Newton,” “The Hitchhiker” and “The Monkey’s Paw” will run weekends October 19, 20, 21, 27, and 28 on the stage of
Jubilee Hall, Holy Trinity Parish, 309 Buffalo St.
Special guest Senator David Valesky, Chair of the Senate’s Aging Committee, was on hand at the event for a Q&A session on EPIC, the newly restored program which helps low-income seniors, including more than 10,000 in Senator Ritchie’s district, with the cost of their prescription drugs.
The Oswego Town Historical Society has invited the Sterling Historical Society to join them a their October 17 meeting. The story of the Dr. Mary Walker statue will be told and there will be discussions as to how both societies can work together as they definitely complement each other.
The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on October 28. Serving will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, vegetable and dessert.
A ceramics and-mixed media installation featuring the work of SUNY Oswego master’s degree candidate Carrie Gregg will open with a free public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27, at Oswego State Downtown.
The H. Lee White Marine Museum, located on the West First Street Pier in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District is open Monday – Sunday, 1-5 p.m. The museum’s main building features 12 exhibit rooms, highlighting more than 400 years of maritime history.
Come on out to Screamwood Forest in Pennellville! Walk the trail through theatrical scenes from favorite Halloween performances or enjoy the games, food, sit-in big-screen movies or bonfire. It’s a good time for Halloween adventurers of any age.
The donation from the car club will assist in the continuation of services to local families such as the Cavalier family, whose son, Jordan, has been receiving services for seven years.
