Breast Cancer Awareness month is under way and on the very first day of October the Oswego Middle School staff became actively involved in the effort. Visitors to OMS will see a bit of pink in many of the staff member’s hair in recognition of their involvement to increase awareness of the tragic results of breast cancer.
Now in its eighth year at SUNY Oswego, the project is part of an annual statewide community-service project by Student-Athlete Advisory Council chapters at all 11 SUNY Athletic Conference colleges.
Thanks to the support we received from businesses and organizations that participated in the event, hundreds of area youth enjoyed an afternoon that included free school supplies, lunch bags packed with a healthy lunch, face painting, complimentary hair cuts and dental screenings, presentations on health, safety, education and more.
It’s not too late to sign up for a Digital Photography class this Saturday with professional photographer Jim Russell. He will discuss the various settings found in digital cameras, how to take a good photo and how to import photos from your digital camera onto your computer.
First United Church of Fulton, 33 S. Third St., will celebrate 15 years of united and uniting congregational life on Sunday. The service will include a power point picture review of highlights of the past year.

The Oswego Opera Theater announced that Rita Vona was the winner of its Lottery Tree Raffle. The winning ticket was drawn at the third annual OOT chicken barbecue held at the Oswego Elks Club on Sept. 23. The prize was $500 worth of NYS Lottery tickets, ranging in purchase price from $1 to $20.
The mini computers in use in Mrs. Tonyajo Wiegand’s third grade classroom at Volney Elementary School in the FCSD are being put to good use by the students, who among other things keep a daily classroom blog.
