Local Girl Working To Feed Others One Penny At A Time

Christie Hoefer has launched Pennies 4 Pantries, a campaign to collect one million pennies to support local pantries. Pictured with Christie is her grandfather, Don (Boston Bean) Greenlay.

Christie Hoefer, a senior at Oswego High School, has seen firsthand the large number of families in Oswego County who depend on food pantries for their meals. She wants to make a difference in her community. That’s when she thought, why not put all those unwanted pennies to good use.

While most people know what the yellow ribbon and the pink ribbon represent, Karrie Damm, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, wants the community to be just as familiar with the blue ribbon and what it represents.
