Jamie Hamlin, the newly-appointed director of Oswego County Veterans’ Services, has announced new hours for the office located in the County Branch Office Building, 200 N. Second St., Fulton. The office will now be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. It will be closed from noon to 1 p.m.

The Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum will hold an open house to commemorate World Refugee Day on June 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Oswego holds its own place in history having had the only refugee shelter in the United States during World War II.

These workshops will cover the usage of Cura (the program used to interface with the Lulzbot Mini printer) as well as examples of the different ways that 3D printing technology is being utilized in different fields of study and development (construction, medicine, etc.) using some videos on YouTube.

The program is offered free to children in second grade through eighth grade in Oswego County (children can be entering second grade in September), and it is held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Mary-Margaret Pekow, CCOC executive director.

Assemblyman Will Barclay today (June 20) invited children to participate in this year’s Assembly Summer Reading Challenge. Students who read at least 15 minutes per day for 40 days this summer and send completed reading challenge forms into Barclay’s office will receive an official Assembly certificate and be invited to the annual Summer Reading Challenge party.

With games scheduled to start Thursday, June 28, high school boys interested in playing indoor box lacrosse this summer are invited to the Fort Ontario rink this Thursday, June 21, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. for final registration, a review of rules, a meeting for the GMs, and a pick-up game if enough players show up.

Come to Lacona on June 30 to celebrate the former Blount Lumber Company. A dedication ceremony for an historic roadside marker begins at 10 a.m. at the past site of the business on DeMott Street, which will highlight the company’s history and importance in Oswego County.

Fairgrieve Elementary students who exhibited academic or behavioral gains while exceeding the school’s expectations were recently recognized for their outstanding fourth quarter achievements.
